Rolling Readers Goes Full Speed Ahead: Funded Spring 2011

San Diego-based Rolling Readers inspires children, with less opportunity, to love reading through read-aloud volunteers and new book ownership. By instilling excitement about books and a love of reading, Rolling Readers creates the foundation for early literacy.

Satterberg Foundation funds enabled RR to hire an organizational consultant to help develop a three-year strategic plan. Rolling Readers added three new board members and anticipates recruiting three more. Volunteer Recruitment sessions are now held weekly instead of monthly, and volunteers are now able to sign up for training sessions online through RR's updated website.

In March, Rolling Readers moved into a larger building and added a lending library to their facilities. They have also become a signature non-profit in the United Way's campaign to recruit 10,000 volunteers. They are poised to grow and thrive and enrich their community for the foreseeable future.
